What is it about these times that have made more people want to bake bread? And, what is it that is so comforting about bread? Is it the smell, the crunchy, then soft texture of it? Maybe it’s the fact that it can be an organic healthy snack. Oh, let’s face it, some of us just like bread…no, LOVE BREAD! Are you listening, @Oprah? I admit it, I love bread too. And, my husband loves baking bread…a lot of bread. Which has left me with a need for how to use a lot of bread Don’t get me wrong, I would love to be like this little girl that also loves her bread but, there has to be another way.
All this led me to think about how to use this wonderful organic sourdough bread in new ways which has led me to create Margot’s Morsels. Using my husband’s (Milt) wonderful bread, I’ve found a way to get my crunch on and share it with you.
It all starts with my love of a crunchy healthy snack and his love of perfecting his sourdough bread. He uses organic artisan flour from Central Milling Co. in Petaluma, CA. and has spent 10 years nurturing, cultivating and perfecting his starter. And, I’ve been digging out from under loaves of bread to come up with healthy recipes and snack ideas to use all that wonderful bread.
These baked, flavorful and healthy snacks are a great for dipping and a kid-friendly alternative to deep-fried snacks. I’ve been so fortunate to have friends (old and new) come up with some great recipes and I’ll post them here and and continue to post them on the website for you.
My first recipe was my own tomato soup recipe with a generous sprinkling of Margot’s Sea Salt Morsels or even the Primo Parmesan Morsels for a little extra kick. You may be knee-deep in tomatoes from your garden so, use fresh, can or freeze to make this simple healthy lunch or light dinner, any time of the year. I’ll add more recipes to the website as they come to us.
