With students fully back in learning mode, we all recognize that back-to-school doesn’t look like anything it has before. However, getting back to a routine is comforting, whatever form that takes. Just knowing the schedule for a given day, week or month gives us some sense of security. And, what is more reassuring than comfort food? Soups, casseroles, and pasta make me think of leaves falling and cozy woolen sweaters. And since crunch is my thing, I love adding my organic sourdough snacks to recipes or use them for dipping, as an alternative to chips for a healthy snack. So, why not ditch the chips?
It’s hard to find a crunchy healthy snack that is satisfying but if you are like me, texture means a lot. And, these are a great crazy-crunchy snack by the handful or used for dipping into a store-bought hummus, creamy avocado dip, tzatziki or your favorite dip – Knorr’s spinach is mine. Whatever your favorite dip…let me know and share the recipe, I’ll put it up on the website. In addition to being a unique, crunchy snack, Margot’s Morsels make a tasty addition to your favorite sandwiches, soups and salads. Get them all: Simply Sea Salt, Killer Garlic or Primo Parmesan but, that’s just the beginning…I’ll keep you posted on new items as they come out when you subscribe to be notified of new things happening in our sourdough world. If you have family away at college or just physically distanced, I’m working on some special items to send to them this winter as a gift or just a way to let them know you are thinking of them. Just to tease you a little bit: we’ll feature a combo box of morsels to encourage healthy snacking and you’ll be able to choose which flavors to include. Watch for them to be available later this month and as you can see new flavor, too.
I’ve been so fortunate to have friends (old and new) come up with some great recipes that I’ll highlight here from time to time but you can always find them on the website. My first recipe was my own tomato soup recipe with a generous sprinkling of Margot’s Morsels - Simply Sea Salt but any of the morsels can be added for a little extra crunch and kick. This is a great recipe, particularly if you are knee-deep in the final tomatoes of the season, use fresh, but canned or frozen tomatoes make this simple healthy lunch or light dinner, any time of the year. I really like the Primo Parmesan or Killer Garlic for some added flavor. I’ll add more recipes to the website as they come to us. And, if you have discovered new ways to use your morsels, tell me about it. I have been selling my morsels at some local farmers’ markets and a repeat customer brought me photos and the recipe of a savory bread pudding, using morsels. I’ll add that to the website soon.

I’ll continue to tell you what’s happening in my kitchen and coax my husband, Milt, to guest blog on his baking adventures. If you are in the San Francisco bay area, come to the farmer’s markets in the North Bay Area and look for us. Right now we’re in Mill Valley and Marin Country Mart in Larkspur. I would love to meet you and find out how you use morsels. Don’t forget to Get Your Crunch On! |
